AKEMI TAKEYA

Modell 5 (1994-1996)

1994-1996. Modell 5: The “Modell 5” project by Granular Synthesis is a choir of “cyborgs”, synthesized from a singe original recording by performer Akemi Takeya.

It is a four-cahnnel video and eight-cahnnel audio composition, displayed on four portrait-format screen, with a quadro-audio set up and massive sub-auio amplification.

“From a few expressions on her face to a frenzied exploration of the alter ego, any known context of meaning ends in the dissolved movements, is stalled in denaturalized redundancy, in machine pain. The semantic void is too loud to be amenable to meditative reception. The frontal images, the rhythmic structures generate contradictory emotions and great strain. Entertainment is offered and almost violently denied. At the highest level of energy, enjoyment reaches the limit.”

“The idea was to create a media figure oscillating between ” naturalness and artificially” one that could be both seductive and violent. both desperate and robotic, a Cyborg, an attractive/repulsive, alien/familier hermaphrodite.” by Granular Synthesis
